Introduction

An essay can either be quite informative and enjoyable or the cause of utter boredom. To prevent this situation, you do not need any magical spell to conjure a flawless essay; all you have to do is stick to a number of easy steps that should be followed for the essay to be gripping. Each paragraph should contain all the valid points related to the topic. Moreover, there should be precision in logically placing these paragraphs so that it is easier for the reader to grasp the concept of your topic. Before writing an essay, prewriting is necessary, which is followed by drafting and revising all of the material that has been written. In the end comes proofreading, which is the most important of all because it will set the tone of the essay, and if done right, your essay will give the impression that you are an expert at essay writing.

Selection of Topic

This is the first skill you have to master to be able to write amazing essays. The selection of topics may sound easy, but the kind of impact it can make on your work is immense. It is very important while looking for a topic that you analyze the kind of engagement the essay will be able to get from the reader. The topic should be interesting and something that the reader may want to read about. Secondly, while choosing a topic for your essay, always make sure that you have an ample amount of information about that specific topic. You may pick a topic that is interesting and then sit for hours thinking about what to write. This just wastes your time and energy. Do not choose a very difficult topic. It will put you in a difficult position to find information regarding that topic, and even the reader may find difficulty interpreting it. You want to make the whole essay reading a very convenient and engaging experience rather than a difficult one for the reader.

Prewriting

The biggest mistake you can make while writing an essay is starting to write the essay right away. Don’t write an essay without an outline. You always need to sketch an outline/skeleton of your essay before you start writing your essay. You need to brainstorm and think about the topic you’re writing on. Take a paper and note all the points that you’re going to write about, in the form of bullets. This may include everything that comes into your mind relevant to the topic. After noting down, the bullets start the analysis of each point individually. Think about what you’re going to write about that specific point. This may include any facts, examples, or ideas that could possibly support the point. The next step is to shortlist the number of pointers you’re going to use in the essay. Use the ones you have gathered the most information about or which you think will add the most weight to the essay. Classify those pointers in the order they are going to appear in the essay, as in, introduction, main idea, conclusion, etc.

Drafting

Let’s come down to the writing part, where you start writing your essay. It is always advised to prepare an initial draft first to have clarity of what the essay can look like, with the ideas one has gathered so far. Write an opening paragraph or 50–150 words. This paragraph holds critical importance as it is the part that lets the reader decide while your essay is interesting and worth reading. So a lot of effort needs to be put in to make it engaging and interesting. Include an unusual fact or an interesting example and then continue forward to introduce your thesis statement to describe your essay’s main idea. Moving forward, start writing about the rest of the pointers you noted down while brainstorming in an order. Lastly, come up with a conclusion to reflect your idea without any redundancy, and discuss your idea’s implications to finish your essay.

Revising

After preparing the draft, give it a read, and spend some time away from the draft, think about what you’ve written. You have to think critically to be able to identify elements of redundancy, vagueness, and irrelevance in your draft. Think of all the examples you have stated and whether they serve the purpose in the right manner. You may go back to reading it if you want to study a specific part again. It is also advised that you have someone read the draft and give you a critical analysis of the essay. This helps you to get a new perspective; the perspective of a reader. This may help you to identify your shortcomings to make your essay better.

Proofreading

After the identification of all the problems with your draft and critical analysis, you can set down to make those changes in your essay. You add, remove, and modify parts of your essay as per your analysis. After the proofreading, go through the paragraphs again to see if they appear accurate. Lastly, give it a read again to identify any spelling, punctuation, or grammar mistakes that might be present in your essay and correct them as they can put a very bad impression on your reader.

Conclusion

A well-written essay will cover every prospect of the chosen topic, and it will also include the writer’s opinion. For the essay to be perfect, it should be free from grammatical or spelling errors; otherwise, the message of the essay will not be delivered properly. The essay needs to be well-researched and written concisely, but this should not prevent the writer from covering all the points. In an essay, one idea should merge into another idea till a conclusion can be derived. An essay without a flow will trouble the reader, and they won’t be able to understand the conceptualization of your essay.
